Today a paddle steamer came my way
And docked by the pier just today
It’s tall red funnels bright and cheerful
Stood out to greet us
Though at first it seemed quite fearful
Why too many people
It seemed they had crammed on board
But once adrift ‘‘twas ok, thank Lord!
It was a lovely sunny day
So with happy smiles my friends did gather so on the boat we made our way
We sat in the bar with joy and laughter
Drank wine ate crisps
Discussed this and that too
While outside the sea passed so very blue
Past Dagenham and Tilbury Dock
We sailed by
The water was perfectly calm
So not that high
We laughed and chatted it was such fun
Our friendships cemented since once begun
Canary Wharf soon came in view
And the cable car so high, well phew!
Before long Tower Bridge was looming fast
The steamer gave a mighty blast!
With its bright lights blazing
It was amazing
And through the bridge we sailed on through
It was a wonderful feeling to be true
And by the side the steamer did dock
So gave us time to take stock
Of this wonderoud river
The River Thames
Where I spent the day with my great friends
The old paddle steamer then paddled away
To carry passengers on another day
A lovely time was had by all
On this first day of Autumn equinox the Fall
A Waverley paddlesteamer made our day
As is sailed the Southend pier way
