Steel Magnolias

A woman who posses the strength of steel, yet the gentleness of a magnolia is a
steel magnolia. USA Southern term – have you seen the film too? I was talking to a blind friend of mine in USA and she said I was a Steel Magnolia! I know lots of women who are too…

Steel Magnolias

Steel Magnolia is what I am
someone told me today
it was a blind friend I know from the USA
it means I have the will to carry on
and get through another day
with a gentle heart
and strength of steel
it is what I surely am and feel
through all the adversity I have faced
for all the dreams that I have chased
the hills I have climbed
only to tumble down
and keep a smile
and try not to frown
as my dreams all turn to sand
and there is no one there to take my hand
ill walk this life tall and alone
so please dont ask me on the phone
how are you today
cos fine ill say
what else is there to utter no burden ill lay
the strength of a Magnolia is Steel
so that is what I am and feel
nothing will ever cast me down
I will get up again
and walk into town
And carry on in this hazy world
where now is dust when once was gold
I walk amid many women who like me
Steel Magnolias we will always be
to the very last we will not be cast down
we always smile there is no frown
until the very final time
for when for us the sun no longer shines
our hearts will linger on with love
and we will shine on you from above

I became interested in poetry about a year ago and try to write about things from my heart that are associated with events in my life or events going on in the World at large or closer to home. I am a visual artist and still am to a certain extent having exhibited some of my work as a visually impaired artist using sponges to paint. I have lost most of my eyesight in recent years to advanced glaucoma and my vision is now very limited I am finding my creativity now evolving in writing poetry and hope to publish my own book of verse in the future. I have a blog page on Wordpress where I share my poetry, art, photography, thoughts and favourite quotes and prayers at https://rosypoems.com
